(Rome, GA) - A day after his 21st birthday, Tomas Nido kick started the Gnats offense on their way to a 5-2 victory on Monday.

With the score tied at two, two bunts by John Mora and Luis Guillorme and Wuilmer Becerra being hit-by-pitch would load the bases for Jon Leroux. Leroux, who was 2-for-2 with three RBIs on the night, would clear the bases with a double and give the Gnats the 5-2 win.

The Sand Gnats got to Rome starter RHP Chad Sobtka (0-0, 11.25) early. Sobtka would pick up the loss after 4.0 IP giving up eight hits, five runs (all earned), walking one, and striking out three.

Rain was the only thing that could slow Gnats starter RHP Martires Arias (1-0, 3.60). Arias settled in after a two-run bottom of the second, striking out the side in the fourth and earning his first victory of 2015. The 6'10" Dominican Republic native threw 5.0 IP allowing just two hits, two runs (both earned), walking four, and striking out six.

The Gnats face the Rome Braves tomorrow for game two at 7 PM. RHP Scarlyn Reyes takes the hill for the Gnats on Tuesday, the Braves will send RHP Max Povse (0-1, 1.80) to the mound. The Sand Gnats will return home on Thursday, April 11 for Opening Day at Historic Grayson Stadium.
