
Danbury's Hymovitz and Kalamazoo's Martin earn weekly honors

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Monday that Danbury Trashers center David Hymovitz has been named Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week and Kalamazoo Wings goaltender Joel Martin has been named Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, January 1, 2006.
Hymovitz completed the week with 13 points (5g, 8a) and a plus-10 rating in four games played. In Wednesday's 6-3 win vs. Richmond, he tallied two goals and dished out an assist. On Friday, he scored the game-winning goal and collected three assists in the 6-2 win vs. Richmond. He had a goal and two assists in Saturday's 5-4 shootout win vs. Richmond. Hymovitz ended the week with a goal and two assists in the 4-3 victory vs. Adirondack. The 31-year-old Randolph, Massachussetts native currently leads the Trashers in scoring with 34 points (17g, 17a). He is also riding a six-game goal streak and a nine-game point streak.
Other players nominated for the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week include: Adirondack left wing Hugo Belanger, Elmira center Chris Chaput, Flint right wing Matt Elich, Fort Wayne defenseman Guy Dupuis, Kalamazoo center Tyler Rennette, Missouri right wing Frank Littlejohn, Motor City center Brent Gretzky, Muskegon defenseman Dave Van Drunen, Quad City right wing Chad Woollard, Richmond center Mike Oliveira, Roanoke left wing Mike Wiggins, and Rockford center Yannick Tifu.
Martin finished the week with a 2-1-0 record, a 1.34 goals against average (GAA), a .956 save percentage (SPCT), and one shutout. On Friday, he stopped all 27 Fort Wayne shots in the 4-0 victory and earned his league leading fifth shutout this season. He made 27 saves in the 2-1 loss to Muskegon on Saturday. He stopped 32 shots in the 5-2 win vs. Port Huron on Sunday and notched his league leading 16th win of the season. The 23-year-old native of Three Hills, Alberta also leads UHL goaltenders in GAA (1.86) and SPCT (.932). It is the second weekly honor for Martin this season. He was also named the Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Month for November.
