
All-Star Classic coaches set

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO --- The United Hockey League (UHL) coaches with the best winning percentage in their respective groups following games on Sunday, January 1st would determine who would be making the trip to St. Charles, Missouri as coaches for the 2006 UHL All-Star Classic. Danbury's Paul Gillis and Muskegon's Todd Nelson earned the spots as head coaches in the mid-season event.
It was a tight race for the coaching spot of the eastern group of All-Stars. Paul Gillis and Adirondack's Marc Potvin headed into a Sunday head-to-head contest with identical winning percentages. On the strength of two goals by Adirondack's Sylvain Cloutier, the Frostbite held a 3-1 lead late in the second period. Danbury would rally to score the next three goals, including two in the third period by rookie winger Jean-Michel Daoust to earn the 4-3 victory and a spot for Paul Gillis as an All-Star head coach.
The race for the coaching spot of the western group of All-Stars also came down to the wire between Muskegon's Nelson and Kalamazoo's Mark Reeds. The two teams met on Saturday night with Nelson holding a narrow margin over Reeds in winning percentage. Muskegon goaltender Clayton Pool stopped 38 of 39 Kalamazoo shots and right wing Jason Lawmaster scored the game-winner at the 15:30 mark of the third period to help send his coach to the All-Star Classic.
The 2006 UHL All-Star Classic is being hosted by the Missouri River Otters on Wednesday, January 25th, 2006. The event is being televised by FSN Midwest on a "tape delay" basis the following Friday and Saturday. Prior to the contest, a special charity game between the St. Louis Blues Alumni and a UHL Commissioner's Team will take place with proceeds benefiting St. Louis Children's Hospital.
ST. PIERRE SETS NEW SHUTOUT MARK - Fort Wayne Komets goaltender Kevin St. Pierre stopped all 21 shots by the Roanoke Valley Vipers in Saturday's 6-0 win. It was the 16th career UHL shutout for St. Pierre, moving him into sole possession of the top spot on the UHL all-time list. He also eclipsed the 10,000 minutes played mark for his UHL career in the game. Prior to the 2005-06 season, St. Pierre was tied with Joe Dimaline in career UHL shutouts (15).
MARTINSON WINS 500th - Rockford IceHogs head coach Steve Martinson collected the 500th win of his coaching career in Friday's 6-1 defeat of the Roanoke Valley Vipers. Martinson is in his second season with Rockford and the 11th of his career behind the bench. He has earned at least 45 wins per year in each of his previous ten seasons. Currently, his career coaching record in 725 games is 501-169-55.

Adirondack Frostbite - (3-2-0) - Left wing Hugo Belanger has 17 points (5g, 12a) in his last six games...Right wing Kevin Watters is tied for the lead among UHL rookies in goals (20) and points (38)...Both Belanger and Watters are riding six-game point streaks...The Frostbite have been out-shot in seven of its last eight games... Adirondack is first in the UHL in shootout percentage (.485) and shootout percentage against (.265).
Danbury Trashers - (4-0-0) - The Trashers are unbeaten in regulation in their last ten games (7-0-3)...They have won their last four home games...Danbury collected three wins vs. Richmond during the week and now have a 5-1-0 record vs. the RiverDogs this season...With a 4-3 come from behind victory on Sunday, Danbury is now 6-0-0 vs. Adirondack this season...Rookie right wing Jean-Michel Daoust had two goals in the third period on Sunday, including the game-winner with 37 seconds remaining.
Elmira Jackals - (1-1-1) - The Jackals overcame a two-goal deficit to win 3-2 vs. Richmond on Sunday. It was their first victory on the road when trailing after two periods...Elmira out-shot Richmond 33-20...Goaltender Ryan McIntosh posted a 1.66 GAA and a .939 SPCT during the week...Defenseman Chris Mann has penalty minutes in seven straight games...Five of the Jackals eight wins have come on the road this season...Seven of their next eight games are at home.
Flint Generals - (2-1-0) - After being winless in their previous four games (0-2-2), Flint earned back-to-back victories during the week...Goaltender Jason Saal posted a 1.50 GAA and a .955 SPCT in the two victories...The Generals had goals from seven different players during the week...With a 2-1 victory vs. Quad City on Thursday, Flint moved their record to 7-3-0 vs. Western Division opponents this season...Defenseman J.P. Morin is riding a four-game assist streak.
Fort Wayne Komets - (2-2-0) - After being shutout in the previous two games, the Komets shutout Roanoke 6-0 on New Year's Eve. Fort Wayne is 6-0-1 on New Year's Eve since joining the UHL...It was the second straight New Year's Eve that the Komets have recorded a shutout...Right wing David Hukalo skated in his 100th professional game on Saturday...10,206 fans attended Saturday's game...Fort Wayne has killed off the last 23 opponent power plays.
Kalamazoo Wings - (3-1-0) - Kalamazoo leads the UHL with 48 standings points...Center Tyler Rennette is riding a six-game point streak. He tied a league season high with four goals on Wednesday vs. Flint...Right wing Tyler Willis has three goals in his last three games...The K-Wings are unbeaten in regulation in their last four road games (3-0-1)...Kalamazoo leads the UHL in goals scored (132)...The K-Wings have four of the top five players in the plus/minus category. Defenseman Greg Labenski leads the league with a plus-31.
Missouri River Otters - (1-2-0) - Left wing Jim Duhart has the longest current point streak in the league (11 games)...Missouri has not won in their last eight road games. Their next six contests are on the road and nine of their next ten are road games...The Otters tied a league season high with six major penalties on Friday vs. Muskegon...Missouri collected their first win in four opportunities vs. Muskegon on Friday (1-2-1)...Kevin Reiter is fourth among UHL goaltenders in saves (669).
Motor City Mechanics - (2-2-0) - Center Greg Bullock recorded his 600th career point when he dished out an assist on Wednesday in Adirondack...Defenseman Mike Burgoyne set a season career high in points (15) when he added an assist on Saturday vs. Rockford...Goaltender Rod Branch recorded his second shutout of the season on Friday. He stopped all 41 Port Huron shots in the 3-0 win...Center Adam Edinger set a Mechanics record for goals in one month when he netted 11 in December.
Muskegon Fury - (2-1-0) - The Fury have yet to lose when they score the first goal of the game (13-0-0)...Right wing Jason Lawmaster scored his first goal of the season on Saturday and it proved to be the game-winner in the 2-1 victory vs. Kalamazoo...Friday's loss to Missouri was the first defeat vs. a Western Division opponent this season (11-1-0). It was also just their first loss outside their division (13-1-0)...Muskegon has the best road record in the UHL (11-2-1)...The Fury are 8-1-1 on Saturday this season...Muskegon had a 8-4-2 record in December.
Port Huron Flags - (0-4-0) - After winning their previous five games, the Flags have lost four straight...All four losses came to Central Division opponents...Port Huron was outscored 17-6 in the four losses...Goaltender Scott Hay continues to lead UHL goaltenders in saves (750)...The Flags lead the league in minor penalties (300) and power play goals against (50)...Port Huron set a league season high with 24 shots in the third period on Sunday.
Quad City Mallards - (2-2-0) - Forward Tom Clayton scored his first goal as a Mallard on Saturday. It also proved to be the game-winner in the 4-2 win vs. Missouri...Defenseman Tom Galvin played his 100th pro game on Saturday...Forward Evgeny Lazarev dished out his 100th career assist on Monday...Goaltender Jason Tapp notched his second shutout of the season on Tuesday, stopping 34 Fort Wayne shots in the 2-0 win...Winger Chad Woollard has eight points (5g, 3a) in six games since being moved to a line with Glenn Detulleo and Matt Radoslovich.
Richmond RiverDogs - (0-3-1) - Center Mike Oliveira had his five-game point streak snapped on Sunday vs. Elmira. He had 11 points (6g, 5a) during the streak...Defenseman R.C. Lyke notched his first goal of the season on Sunday...Forward Matt Goody set an individual high with 25 penalty minutes on Wednesday vs. Danbury...The RiverDogs have killed off 21 of the last 25 opponent power plays (84%).
Roanoke Valley Vipers - (0-2-0) - With a depleted roster due to injuries, the Vipers are on a three-game losing streak...They have been outscored 21-5 during the streak...Left wing David Beauregard had his three-game goal streak snapped on Friday...Beauregard is currently ninth in the UHL in scoring (37 points) and tied for second with 20 goals... The Vipers next three games are vs. Central Division opponents and seven of their next eight games are at home.
Rockford IceHogs - (3-0-0) - Rockford is 7-1-2 in their last ten games...The IceHogs have the best home record in the UHL (16-2-1)... The IceHogs have won their last five home games...Rockford outscored its opponents 17-5 during the week...Rockford killed off 19 of 20 opponent power plays during the week (95%)...Left wing Robin Big Snake leads the UHL in shooting percentage (.268) and penalty minutes (175)....Rockford is 13-1-1 within their division.
