Dams scores hat trick in Havoc win

HUNTSVILLE, AL - Jeff Dams scored a hat trick Thursday night as the Huntsville Havoc cruised to a 7-2 win over the Jacksonville Barracudas.

Dams scored his first goal of the night with 12:50 left in the first period. Jim Quilty tied the score 1:20 later with a 4-on-3 goal. Ryan Brown put the Havoc up 2-1 with 4:22 left in first and Chris Peach gave the Havoc a 4-1 lead at the intermission when he scored with :07 left.

Dams scored his second goal 6:58 into the second period and finished the hat trick off six minutes later. Craig Bushey and James Patterson added second period goals to extend the lead to 7-1. Chris Kovalcik scored with 10:58 left in the third to cut the lead to 7-2.

Jomar Cruz got the win in his first start with the Havoc. He left with 16:40 left in the third with dehydration. He stopped 28 shots. Nick Niedert finished the game and made 10 saves.

The Havoc had struggled on the power play before converting 5-of-6 tonight. Jacksonville was 1-of-10.

The same two teams will meet again tomorrow night at 7:35.
