December 12, 2021 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Erie Otters News Release

Erie, Pennsylvania - Back-to-back home game days for the Erie Otters for the first time since October greeted the team on Sunday afternoon. With back-to-back games with hat tricks for the Otters from Captain Daniel D'Amato (12/8) and Connor Lockhart (12/11), the team would look to continue their offensive success, taking on an up-and-down Sarnia Sting team, having a day of rest following a 9-1 loss to the Kitchener Rangers on Friday Night.

Erie's offense would be the story of the opening 20 minutes, as the Otters - who got off to a very slow start offensively in the Saturday night tilt with Saginaw - would take 18 of the first 22 shots in the game. Nolan DeGurse (7) would collect a point in his sixth-straight game and put the Sting on the board first. Just over six minutes later, Connor Lockhart (9) would knot things up for his fourth goal in two games. After 20 minutes of play, the Otters and Sting would be knotted up 1-1, shots massively in favor of Erie 18-4.

After being outshot 18-4 in the first period, the Sarnia Sting would be the heavy-shooting team in the second, outshooting the Otters 14-9. Halfway through the period, the first goal of the frame would come from Andrei Malyavin (2) to put the Sting back ahead 2-1. Late stages of the period, Otters' rookie Owain Johnston would drop the gloves with Sting Captain Brayden Guy and win a massive tilt in his first-career Ontario Hockey League fight. Johnston would be gifted a game misconduct for the fight, and the Otters would be without the young defenseman. Erie would capitalize off the momentum minutes later though, with Captain Dan D'Amato (9) netting one from an Elias Cohen feed to make it a 2-2 game after two; Otters leading in shots, 27-18.

With a penalty to kill off to start the third period, the Otters would successfully kill off the penalty, but not keep the Sting off the board. Ryder McIntyre (2) would get one through just 1:59 into the frame, to give the Sting a lead that would hold for over 14 minutes. Erie would keep out of the box, and continue their efforts to try and tie things up again, but continue to be stopped by Sarnia. With 15:41 gone by in the frame, Daniel D'Amato (10) would score his ninth goal of the last week, giving the Otters a game-tying goal with just over four minutes remaining. Exactly two minutes later, Taeo Artichuk would grab a flipped-puck out of the air, apin and backhand it on net, and Carey Terrance (3) would get it under Anson Thornton to give the Otters their first lead of the night with just over two minutes remaining. With a late penalty kill on a six on four, the Otters would survive the Sarnia threat for a 4-3 win.

Terrance's late goal would give him his first-career Ontario Hockey League game-winning goal, and give the Otters their seventh win of the season. The Otters will get an extended break for the first time in weeks, not returning to play until Friday night in Guelph. Erie will play its final game before Holiday break on Saturday, December 18 at the Erie Insurance Arena, facing the Kitchener Rangers for the first time this season. This game night will feature a post-game skate to send fans happy into the holiday season.
