Dallas Sidekicks Pick up Second Loss of Season, Fall to Oxford City 5-4

January 3, 2015 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Dallas Sidekicks News Release

Allen, Texas - The Dallas Sidekicks record-tying eight-game winning streak was broken Saturday night in a back-and-forth 5-4 loss against Oxford City FC of Texas at Allen Event Center. The team's 8-2 record keeps them in the second spot in the Southern Division, behind Monterrey who the Sidekicks will visit next Sunday. Dallas forwards Freddy Moojen, Shaun David and Cameron Brown's contributions moved them up into eight, ninth, and 15th in MASL scoring, respectively.

After Oxford City's Lucas Totti got his team on the board just 1:10 into the game, the first quarter became an intense battle of possession. The Sidekicks were kept off the scoreboard, despite outshooting Oxford City 6-1. After killing off a penalty early in the second period, Dallas' Cody Ellis tied the game at one-a-side, the defenseman putting in the extra effort and scoring off of his own rebound from City goalkeeper Juan Gamboa. The Sidekicks got their first lead of the night at 10:44 from forward Freddy Moojen, but a goal resulting from a foul restart sequence from Oxford City's Angelo Sanchez tied the match 2-2 going into halftime.

The second half was a game of catch up, both sides trading goals. A high blast from Franck Tayou over Sidekicks netminder Milo put Oxford City up at 5:13 in the third, but a few minutes later Carlos Videla took advantage of a scramble in front of Oxford City's net and evened out the score. City took the lead again early in the fourth quarter, but a relentless Dallas side tied the game 4-4 at 9:18, Cameron Brown dodging a defender and scoring on the powerplay from the top of the arc. City's Angelo Sanchez got his second of the night soon after, getting in behind Milo for what would be the game-winning goal. Dallas made the rare choice to try their luck with a sixth attacker in midfielder and playmaker Ricardinho, but could not capitalize, Oxford City taking a 5-4 victory and handing the Sidekicks their second loss of the season.

Rolling into 2015, the Sidekicks find their season half-finished, and are looking to make a strong push for key playoff positioning as they seek a fifth indoor soccer championship. Next weekend comes possibly the most crucial portion of Dallas' schedule this season when they hit the road for two matchups in Mexico: Saltillo Rancho Seco (0-7) on Friday, Jan. 9 at 8:35 p.m., and then the Monterrey Flash (10-1) on Sunday, Jan. 11 at 5:05 p.m. Monterrey's only loss of the season came against Las Vegas on Dec. 21. The team leads the Southern Division just ahead of the Sidekicks. Both matches will be available to stream live at www.golivesports.com. The Sidekicks will return to Allen Event Center to once again welcome Oxford City on Sunday, Jan. 18 at 3:00 p.m. for Boy Scout and Girl Scout night.
