Frisco RoughRiders News Release
The Midland RockHounds made their two-run first inning hold up behind seven strong innings from starter Gary Daley in a 3-1, series-clinching victory over the RoughRiders Thursday night at Citibank Ballpark.
Daley (5-4) improved to 3-0 against the RoughRiders this season. Daley held the 'Riders to one run on eight hits in seven innings. The 'Riders (61-49, 21-19) had multiple scoring chances but stranded 11 runners. The RoughRiders left two men on base in five different innings.
Frisco's lone run came when Engel Beltre singled home Jonathan Greenewith two outs in the sixth inning.
In his first Double-A start of the season, Robbie Ross (0-1) posted a quality start but suffered the loss. Ross surrendered three runs on six hits in six innings. The left-hander whiffed six.
Behind Ross, both Johan Yan and Fabio Castillo crafted a scoreless inning out of the bullpen.
Both Stephen Parker and Wes Timmons chased home a run for the RockHounds (47-63, 19-21) in the first inning. The only other mistake by Ross came in the fifth when Jeremy Barfield hit a leadoff home run. It was just the second home run Ross has given up this season between Frisco and High-A Myrtle Beach.
The 'Riders return home for a season-long ten-game home stand that begins Friday night at 7:05 against the first-place San Antonio Missions. Frisco's starting pitcher has yet to be announced. Juan Oramas (6-3, 3.43 ERA) will toe the rubber for the Missions. Pre-game coverage along the RoughRiders Baseball Network begins at 6:35.
QUICK HITS: Ross' only other Double-A outing came last year in the Texas League playoffs against Midland...In his 123 and a third innings with Myrtle Beach, Ross only surrendered one home run...The 'Riders ended this road trip with a record of 3-4.
