'Dads Top Drive, 5-3, in Regular Season Finale

GREENVILLE, SC - The Hickory Crawdads topped the Greenville Drive, 5-3, in the regular season finale, before 4,478 fans at Fluor Field on Monday afternoon. The Crawdads will host the Lakewood BlueClaws in Game One of the Northern Division Championship Series at L.P. Frans Stadium on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The Crawdads (75-64, 35-34) struck first with back-to-back solo home runs by 1B Jared Bolden and C Zach Zaneski in the top of the first inning. Greenville (77-62, 41-28) cut the lead in half in the bottom of the first with an infield RBI single by C Sean Killeen, but the 'Dads stretched it back out with two more in the second.
With the bases loaded and no outs, SS Leury Garcia hit a double play ball that scored 3B Matt West from third and moved DH Edwin Garcia to third. Garcia then scored on a balk committed by RHP Yeiper Castillo (4-5), making it 4-1.
RHP Jake Brigham (6-5) dealt the next five frames in scoreless fashion, surrendering just the one run on three total hits while striking out five in the six-inning start. RHP Johan Yan followed with two scoreless innings in the seventh and eighth, keeping the Crawdads ahead by three.
The 'Dads struck with an insurance run when another double play ball plated 2B Jonathan Roof from third in the top of the ninth, stretching the lead to 5-1. The Drive attempted a late comeback with two against RHP Sam Brown in the bottom of the ninth, but LHP Joseph Ortiz took over and retired the final two outs to close the 5-3 win for the Crawdads.
Brigham registered the win and Ortiz logged his second save in the last two games, while Castillo was tagged with the loss for Greenville.
