Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Salisbury, MD - The Augusta GreenJackets got a pair of two-run home runs that led the way to a 7-2 win in their 2010 season finale against the Delmarva Shorebirds on Monday afternoon.
Chris Dominguez and Luke Anders hit the two-run blasts, with Dominguez's coming in Augusta's four-run sixth and Anders providing his longball in the Jackets' three-run ninth. Entering the sixth, Augusta trailed the game 1-0 on Austin Rauch's fourth inning line drive home run over the left field wall. In the sixth, Ryan Lollis led off by tripling off the right field fence and scored on Ydwin Villegas's RBI double down the line in right to tie the game at one.
After Nick Liles singled to extend his hitting streak to 21 games, Skyler Stromsmoe's sacrifice fly provided the GreenJackets with their first lead of the game at 2-1. Dominguez followed with his 21st home run of the year - a two-run blast to extend the lead to 4-1. The homer placed Dominguez one shy of the franchise single-season home run record while the two RBI's allowed the GreenJackets third baseman to eclipse 100 with a total of 101 that is the most since Brandon Moss also drove in 101 in 2004.
Delmarva got a run back in the sixth but Augusta padded the lead in the ninth on Anders' two-run shot to right field. Hector Sanchez followed with a double, moved to third on a groundout and then scored on a wild pitch to push the lead to five runs.
Andy Reichard (6-1) fired eight solid innings to get his third consecutive victory. He allowed two runs on seven hits with a walk and five strikeouts. Jose Casilla finished the game with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Delmarva starter Matt Hobgood limited the Jackets to a hit and a walk through five scoreless innings but Augusta did their damage against the Shorebirds bullpen. Aaron Swenson (1-1) surrendered all four runs in the sixth inning to take the loss.
Under manager Dave Machemer, the 2010 GreenJackets finish the campaign with the best overall record in the Southern Division at 79-59. It's the second straight year the GreenJackets have earned that distinction and still missed out on a shot at the postseason.
