
'Dads Fall to Delmarva for Fourth Straight Loss

Hickory, NC- The Crawdads lost their fourth straight game with a 4-2 loss against the Delmarva Shorebirds. The 'Dads strung together 6 hits on the night but were unable to overcome a pair of Delmarva homeruns and costly walks.
Catcher Sam Huff got the scoring started in the bottom of the first with a line drive homerun to left field.
The Shorebirds responded in the top of the fourth with homeruns on the first two pitches of the inning. First baseman Seamus Curran crushed a ball over the 32-foot-high signage in right field to tie the game. Center fielder TJ Nichting gave the Shorebirds the lead with another homerun to right.
Crawdads first baseman Tyler Ratliff evened the score once again in the bottom of the fifth with his first homerun of the season.
'Dads starting pitcher Jean Casanova lasted 5 innings, giving up 2 earned runs. He allowed 8 hits, struck out four and walked one. Right hander Joe Kuzia took over in relief and put up two and two thirds scoreless frames before exiting with two runners on. Joe Barlow came in and walked the first batter he faced to load the bases. He waked the next two batters to bring in a pair of runs for the Shorebirds before getting the final out of the inning on a grounder to short.
The 'Dads went 3 up 3 down in the eighth. With two outs in the ninth, Ratliff hit an infield single that was followed up by another single by second baseman Kole Enright. Designated hitter Chad Smith struck out to strand two runners and end the game.
The Crawdads wrap up the homestand tomorrow afternoon with a 3pm game. It will be the season's first Bark in the Park thanks to Cody Law Firm and WNNC. It is also Red Out so fans who wear red will get a free ticket to the game courtesy of Community Blood Center of the Carolinas who will be at the Frans for a blood drive from 2pm-4:30pm.
