Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - Dalton Guthrie scored on a walk-off wild pitch in the bottom of the 11th inning as the BlueClaws topped Kannapolis 5-4 on Saturday at FirstEnergy Park.
The win comes one day after Kannapolis topped Lakewood 6-4 in 11 innings on Friday night. The BlueClaws (13-9) improved to 12-5 over their last 17 games while Kannapolis falls to 14-9.
Guthrie came home with the bases loaded and Kevin Markham at the plate with two out on the wild pitch from Yosmer Solarzano (0-2). The BlueClaws have now played seven extra inning games among their first 22 games this year (4-3). Their last four home games have gone to extra innings.
Each team scored in the 10th inning, with Carlos Perez singling home the go-ahead run in the top of the inning and Kevin Markham scoring on a passed ball in the bottom of the inning.
Addison Russ (3-0) earned the win after escaping a jam in the top of the 11th inning.
Nick Maton and Danny Mayer each had two hits for Lakewood in the win.
Kannapolis scored three runs in the first inning off Connor Brogdon, with the first four hitters reach base. Justin Yurchek's RBI single put the Intimidators up 1-0 and Michael Hickman added a two-run single for a 3-0 lead.
Those three runs, however, would be the only three allowed by Connor Brogdon, who finished the fifth inning.
Lakewood got on the board in the fifth on Josh Stephen's third home run of the season, an opposite field shot onto the berm in left field.
After Kannapolis starter Blake Battenfield came out after six innings, the BlueClaws tied the game in the seventh on a two-run home run by Rodolfo Duran onto the same left field berm Stephen found two innings earlier. It was Duran's first home run since 2016 with the GCL Phillies.
The teams finish their three-game series on Sunday at 1:05 pm. LHP David Parkinson (1-1) starts for the BlueClaws opposite LHP John Parke (3-0).
