D.C. United's Justin Moose undergoes hernia surgery

Washington, D.C. (July 18, 2007) - D.C. United announced today midfielder Justin Moose has had successful bilateral hernia repair this week in Munich, Germany. Moose who was diagnosed with inguinal hernias, underwent procedures on both his left and right abdominal walls. The midfielder's recovery to full participation is expected to take two-three weeks.

"Justin has shown good development as a player this season," said united Technical Director Dave Kasper. "We look forward to him being back in uniform and continuing to improve his game."

In his second season with United, Moose has seen considerably more first team action during the 2007 season, with seven appearances (four starts) under his belt. Last year, as a reserve team staple, Moose scored a goal and notched an assist in 10 starts. United selected Moose in the first round, seventh overall, of the 2006 MLS Superdraft on January 20, 2006. The midfielder joined United at the conclusion of his collegiate career at Wake Forest, where he earned All-ACC First team, NSCAA First Team, and MAC Hermann Trophy semi-finalist honors his senior year. During his final two seasons in Winston-Salem, Moose also played in the Premier Development League for the Carolina Dynamo, where he earned 2004 PDL Rookie of the Year and 2005 PDL All-League honors.

Dr. Ulrike Muschaweck, a specialist who has performed this particular surgery on more than 1,000 professional soccer players worldwide, performed the surgery. He has performed the same surgery on defender Bryan Namoff and midfielder Christian Gomez.
