D.C. United's Jaime Moreno earns 'Goal of the Week'

Washington, D.C. (June 21, 2006) - D.C. United forward Jaime Moreno earned Sierra Mist 'Goal of the Week' honors in Week 12 for his powerful strike in United's 1-1 draw with the New England Revolution on Saturday, June 17. The goal was Moreno's eighth of the year and came in the 44th minute of play, the result of a 20-yard blast after a pass from Lucio Filomeno.

The honor marks the first time Moreno has won the award this year, and the fourth time in his career. It is the second consecutive week, and the fourth time this season, a United player has earned the Sierra Mist 'Goal of the Week'. Facundo Erpen took home Week 4 honors, Alecko Eskandarian won in Week 7 and Christian Gomez was most recently bestowed the award in Week 11. D.C. United players have won the award a total of 15 times, the most for any team, since the honor was started in 2004.

Moreno has been an instrumental part of the United offense his season, leading the team with eight goals. He is also tied for second in the League for goals scored. Saturday's tally was the 102nd of his MLS career, placing him just two goals behind Real Salt Lake's Jason Kries for the all-time League lead. The strike was also his 100th while with the Black-and-Red.
