Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON, Texas (Wednesday, June 21, 2006) - FC Barcelona technical secretary Francisco "Paco" MartÃnez visited Houston today, surveying the site where his club will play against Club América on August 9, 2006.
MartÃnez also visited and surveyed Robertson Stadium, where FC Barcelona will be holding at least one training session during its stay in Houston.
"The stadiums here are exceptional", said MartÃnez. "I am impressed with the facilities I've visited, particularly with Reliant Stadium, which is truly magnificent. I can see many concepts here in terms of architecture and design that would do very well if we applied them in Europe."
MartÃnez also confirmed that FC Barcelona will bring all its players to its U.S. Tour, including FIFA World Player of the Year for 2005, Ronaldinho, African Player of the Year Samuel Eto'o, and Mexican international Rafael Márquez.
"Barcelona is a club with a long-standing winning tradition, meaning that we will not take games less seriously simply because they are friendlies", said MartÃnez. "You can be sure that we will bring all our players, because the tour will not only be beneficial to them and the club, but also to the development and appreciation of soccer in the United States."
MartÃnez played for Spanish First Division clubs Salamanca, Mallorca, Murcia, and FC Barcelona, this last one from 1976 to 1982. Throughout his career he accumulated several championships, among them two European Cups, and two Copas del Rey. His many responsibilities with FC Barcelona include scouting, consulting, and assisting head coach Frank Rijkaard.
Tickets to the FC Barcelona doubleheader, also featuring a regular-season game between the Houston Dynamo and Los Angeles Galaxy, are currently on sale to group buyers, and also through a special four-game package. For more information, or to purchase tickets, please call the Houston Dynamo ticket office at 713-276-7500, or log on to www.houstondynamo.com. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at 10:00 a.m.
