D.C. United News Release
Washington, D.C. (November 3, 2008) - D.C. United announced today the winner of the Copa D.C. VIII, the yearly 6v6 indoor tournament hosted by the club and presented by Volkswagen and associate sponsor, The Electrical Alliance. La Mara continued their dominance in D.C. United's annual tournament, winning the championship for the eighth consecutive season. The only team to ever win the 6v6 event, La Mara takes home a check for $3,000, a first place trophy, gold medals for everyone on the team, and a free entrance into next year's 'Copa D.C. IX'.
The tournament featured ten elite teams from the greater Washington DC area. Each team played three group stage matches on October 19, with the top eight teams then advancing to the knockout phase. The quarterfinals, semi-finals, and finals were held on October 26 at the Rockville SportsPlex.
La Mara rolled through the tournament, going undefeated in the group stage to qualify for the knockout round. A 6-5 win over T. Park in the final gave the defending champion their eighth Copa D.C. crown.
