Washington, D.C. (August 8, 2006) - D.C. United announced today it has traded Santino Quaranta to the Los Angeles Galaxy in exchange for a partial allocation and a conditional 2008 MLS SuperDraft pick.

"When we drafted Santino as a 16-year old, I thought he had qualities unique for a young American player and I still feel that way," said United President and CEO Kevin Payne. "Santino feels the best way for him to progress is with a new start in a different community. We wish him all the luck in the world with the Galaxy."

Quaranta is in the sixth year of his MLS career, all with D.C. United. At the time of his selection in the first round (8th overall) in the 2001 MLS SuperDraft, Quaranta was the youngest player ever drafted by Major League Soccer. His career has been hampered by injuries since his successful rookie season, in which he was named an MLS All-Star. In 62 career games (42 starts), Quaranta amassed 14 goals and 13 assists. Quaranta has seen limited action again this season, playing in only four games - a total of 65 minutes - for D.C.

"This trade to the Galaxy will give us important allocation money for future use and will provide Santino with a change of scenery," said D.C. United Technical Director Dave Kasper. "We want to thank Santino for his time at D.C. United and we wish him the best of luck in the future."
