D.C. United to Host New York Red Bulls in the Fourth Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United will host the New York Red Bulls at Audi Field in the fourth round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The match will be the [number] meeting between the two sides. Information regarding the match date and kick-off time will be communicated shortly.
D.C. United defeated National Independent Soccer Association (NISA) side Flower City Union 3-0 on Tuesday, April 19 in Rochester, New York. The Black-and-Red were powered by two goals from Ola Kamara and one from Nigel Robertha.
The Black-and-Red have won the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup three times in club history. They captured their first cup title in the inaugural MLS season in 1996 after beating Rochester Rhinos 3-0. In 2008, D.C. United hoisted the domestic trophy once again, their third cup championship in 2013 after a 1-0 win against Real Salt Lake.
The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is a single-elimination tournament designed to crown the top soccer club in the United States. The domestic cup tournament features clubs from all four professional leagues sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation: Major League Soccer, the United Soccer League Championship and League One, and the National Independent Soccer Association, as well as amateur teams.
