D.C. United News Release
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Audi Field today announced that the 20,000-seat venue located in downtown Washington, D.C. will play host to an Audi Football Summit friendly match between world class German Bundesliga side FC Bayern Munich and the most decorated club in Major League Soccer (MLS) history D.C. United on July 20 at 7:30 p.m. EST.
"FC Bayern Munich are one of the biggest and most storied clubs in our sport. It's a pleasure to host them and their side full of global superstars, like Robert Lewandowski, Manuel Neuer, Leroy Sane, and so many more, as part of the Audi Football Summit at our home stadium this summer alongside our great partner Audi," said Danita Johnson, President of Business Operations for D.C. United. "We look forward to delivering a highly competitive and enjoyable experience for our fanbase and the sporting community in the DMV."
31-time German Bundesliga champions and six-time UEFA Champions League winners, FC Bayern Munich will continue their US Summer Tour as part of the Audi Football Summit in Washington, D.C. with a trip to Audi Field to take on four-time MLS Cup winners D.C. United.
Andreas Jung, FC Bayern Board Member for Marketing: "Over the last two years, the virtual Audi Summer Tours have been really well received by our fans across the world. Nevertheless, nothing replaces real contact with fans in their own home countries. Over time, the Audi Summer Tour has become an important tool in presenting our club on the global stage - and at the same time bringing our values and our Bavarian roots to the world."
This match will mark the first meeting between the two sides and the second international friendly between D.C. United and a top division European side at Audi Field since the stadium opened in the summer of 2018. The Black-and-Red hosted Real Betis from La Liga in May 2019.
"The Audi Football Summit gives us an exciting way to bring the enthusiasm around European football to the U.S.," said Adam Perez, experiential marketing specialist, Audi of America. "We are proud to host a world-class football club like FC Bayern Munich on our home turf at Audi Field and are looking forward to an exciting match against D.C. United."
