
New England Revolution to Face FC Cincinnati in Fourth Round of 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution will host FC Cincinnati in the Fourth Round of the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday, May 11 for a 7:00 p.m. ET kickoff at Gillette Stadium. This will mark the first U.S. Open Cup meeting between the Revolution and FC Cincinnati. New England holds a 3-1-0 advantage in MLS competition against the 2019 MLS expansion side. If New England defeats Cincinnati, it will face the winner of the other East Central Group matchup between USL Championship clubs Detroit City SC and Louisville City FC in the Round of 16.
The New England Revolution are three-time finalists and one-time winners of the U.S. Open Cup, having lifted the trophy in 2007. New England last competed in the tournament in 2019, advancing to the Round of 16 before a defeat to Orlando City SC. Overall, the Revolution are 21-17-5 in 43 games in the competition, including a 15-5-3 mark at home. Against MLS opposition in the U.S. Open Cup, the Revolution are 8-12-1.
Dating back to 1914, the U.S. Open Cup is the oldest cup competition in United States soccer and is among the oldest in the world. Open to all affiliated amateur and professional teams in the United States, the annual U.S. Open Cup is a single-elimination tournament. The winner of the U.S. Open Cup receives a bid to the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League, an annual tournament between the top clubs from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean. Concacaf Champions League's winner is awarded a spot in the FIFA Club World Cup.
The Revolution continue the MLS season this weekend with a visit to D.C. United at Audi Field on Saturday, April 23. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET and airs on WSBK-TV38, myRITV, Cozi TV, 98.5 The Sports Hub HD2, and 1260 AM Nossa Radio in Portuguese.
