D.C. United Re-Sign Goalkeeper Chris Seitz Through 2021
D.C. United have re-signed goalkeeper Chris Seitz through the 2021 Major League Soccer (MLS) Season. Seitz joined the Black-and-Red from the Houston Dynamo on Jan. 11, 2019.
"Chris has been a great addition to the roster since he joined the club two seasons ago," Dave Kasper, D.C. United General Manager and VP of Soccer Operations, said. "He had some impressive displays in goal in 2020 and his experience and leadership have been integral in our locker room. We are excited to extend his contract through 2021 and have his knowledge and experience of the league in the locker room next season."
In 2020, Seitz made six appearances (six starts) in MLS play; making 22 saves and recording two shutouts. In total, Seitz has made seven MLS appearances for the Black-and-Red in two seasons; totaling 24 saves and two shutouts. He last appeared in the 2-1 win against FC Cincinnati on Oct. 18 at Nippert Stadium.

He played for three seasons in Utah, recording 19 saves in seven regular season appearances. Seitz won the 2009 MLS Cup with Real Salt Lake.
On Nov. 25, 2009, he was traded to the Philadelphia Union, an MLS expansion team that year. In Philadelphia's inaugural season, Seitz recorded 68 saves in 23 appearances. The following season in 2011, Seitz was selected by the Seattle Sounders in the second stage of the Re-Entry Draft that year, and was then immediately traded to FC Dallas.
Seitz spent seven seasons in Dallas, recording 163 saves in 67 MLS regular season appearances. The goalkeeper made 87 total appearances across all competitions for FC Dallas, recording 23 clean sheets. Seitz was a part of the FC Dallas team that won the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and the 2016 MLS Supporters' Shield. He also won the 2012 MLS Humanitarian of the Year while with FC Dallas.
