Harrison, N.J. (March 22, 2015) - D.C. United (1-1-0, 3 points) suffered its first loss of the 2015 MLS regular season, dropping a 2-0 decision at Red Bull Arena in the home opener for the New York Red Bulls (1-0-1, 4 points).
Bradley Wright-Phillips scored New York's first goal in the 25th minute and set up Lloyd Sam for the second in the 71st minute.
Chris Rolfe had United's best chances, forcing diving stops by Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles (five saves) the 33rd and 77th minutes.
Chris Pontius missed a penalty kick in second half stoppage time, sending the ball over the goal.
D.C. United returns to action on March 28 at RFK Stadium against reigning MLS Cup champions Los Angeles Galaxy (CSN, 7).
Game notes:
*Despite the result, D.C. United leads the overall series with New York with a record of 33-24-9.
*D.C. United is now 13-14-5 all time on the road against New York.
*D.C. United Head Coach Ben Olsen is now 4-6-2 all-time against New York.
*D.C. United has gone scoreless in three straight games at Red Bull Arena. United is winless in five straight visits to Red Bull Arena, including playoff games.
*Ben Olsen's overall record is now 50-65-35.
*Bobby Boswell made his 56th consecutive regular season start, the second-longest streak in Major League Soccer behind New York goalkeeper Luis Robles (74 games). Boswell has 36 consecutive starts since his return to D.C. United in 2014.
*D.C. United started the same lineup for the second straight game: Hamid, Korb, Birnbaum, Boswell, Franklin, Rolfe, Arnaud, Kitchen, DeLeon, Pontius, Arrieta.
