D.C. United Announce Friendly against Celtic FC in July at Audi Field

WASHINGTON - D.C. United today announced a friendly with 53-time Scottish champions, Celtic FC, at Audi Field on July 20 at 7:30 PM ET. Celtic FC consistently feature in the UEFA Champions League and are a globally recognizable soccer brand. They will play at Audi Field, D.C. United's 20,000-seat venue in downtown Washington, DC, in July.

This will be a unique experience for soccer fans in the DMV to see D.C. United lining up against another elite European opponent at Audi Field."

Celtic announced a friendly against Chelsea FC from the English Premier League as part of their 2024 United States Tour on Monday, March 18. The teams will play at Notre Dame Stadium in Indiana on July 27.

Celtic Club Captain and Scotland internationalist Callum McGregor said: "We are delighted to be visiting Washington to meet D.C. United and we are sure the match will be another great sporting occasion. Celtic has enjoyed a number of great visits to the United States previously to play both European and MLS teams and I am sure this summer we will enjoy another successful visit."

Celtic Football Club, commonly known as Celtic, is a professional soccer club based in Glasgow, Scotland that competes in the Scottish Premiership, the highest tier of Scottish football. The club was established in 1887 and is one of the most historic and decorated clubs in European football. Celtic have won 53 Scottish League titles, 41 Scottish Cups, 21 League Cups, and was the first British club to lift the European Cup (now referred to as the Champions League) in 1967. Celtic have competed at Celtic Park since 1892 and have been the staple of Scottish football since the club's inception.

Founded in 1888 for charitable purposes, its principal founder was a Catholic Priest named Brother Walfrid. The first aim of the club was to raise funds to provide food for the poor children of the East End of Glasgow, an area of the City with a large Irish community. From humble beginnings, Celtic has developed into one of the great names in world sport, but maintaining its commitment to a strong social dimension, through one of the most successful charitable operations in world soccer, raising funds and delivering meaningful projects to support people in need.
