Danville Otterbots News Release
DANVILLE, Va. - The Danville Braves split the Tuesday twin bill against the Burlington Royals 2-3, 3-2 with game one the continuation of the last game of the July 17-21 series in Burlington, which was postponed due to inclement weather.
GAME I
After three scoreless innings, the D-Braves rallied for the first run of the game in the fourth inning. Royals starting pitcher, Yender Caramo, clipped Braves third baseman, Trenton Moses, across the letters to put him on base with one out. First baseman, Aris Alcantara, then tumbled a ball down the third base line for his team-leading 10th double of the season. With runners at second and third, left fielder, Edison Sanchez, hit an RBI groundout to score Moses and open the scoring, 1-0.
The D-Braves added an insurance run on two hits in the fifth. After Royals left fielder, Terrance Gore, did a catch and drop in foul territory, catcher, Nick De Santiago, barreled up on a second-chance fastball and doubled it down the right field line to lead off the frame. Center fielder Logan Robbins singled, and, with runners at the corners, shortstop, Jose Peraza, plated De Santiago on an RBI fielder's choice. With a fast man on first, Peraza stole his eighth base in eight attempts before third baseman, Carlos Franco, struck out swinging to end the inning.
The Royals won the game in their last at-bats. Three-hole hitter, Bubba Starling, the Appalachian League Player of the Week, singled to lead off the inning. Starling advanced to second on a wild pitch. With the double play ball out of the equation, third baseman, Patrick Leonard, walked to put the tying-run on base. The free pass was the first issued by the Braves in the game.
Catcher Cameron Gallagher kept the rally alive when he doubled over-the-head of Robbins to score Starling and cut the lead in half. With the tying-run on third and go-ahead run on second, first baseman, Mark Threlkeld, was intentionally walked to load the bases for No. 9 hitter, Jose Rodriguez. During Rodriguez's at-bat, the Royals tied the game when relief man, Shae Simmons, threw his second wild pitch of the inning. De Santiago couldn't get in front of the ball in time to block it. Rodriguez was then issued the second straight walk of the inning to again load the bases.
With pinch runner Adrian Morales flying down the line on the pitch, left fielder, Terrance Gore, sacrificed himself to safely score Morales and the Royals retook the lead, 3-2.
Braves starter Ernesto Silva turned in his third consecutive quality start and seventh of the season. He pitched 6.0 innings and allowed no runs on four hits in just 64 pitches. Royals starter, Yender Caramo, pitched 5.0 innings and allowed two runs (both earned) on five hits. Reliever, Benjamin Tomchick, pitched 1.0 scoreless inning out of the bullpen to earn his first win of the season.

GAME II
Left fielder, Terrance Gore, led off the second game the same way he ended the first one: on a bunt single. The Royals got aggressive on the base paths when Gore successfully stole his 22nd base in 24 attempts to get into scoring position. With two outs, the Royals perfectly executed a double steal and benefitted from a throwing error by Braves catcher, Troy Snitker, to score the first run of the ball game.
The D-Braves answered back in their first at-bats to knot the game at one. The Braves also got on the board with two outs. After retiring shortstop Jose Peraza and second baseman Ronald Luna, the Braves got back-to-back singles from designated hitter Carlos Franco and third baseman Trenton Moses. Franco ran all the way to third when second baseman Kenny Diekroeger threw a ball that sailed over the mitt of first baseman Mark Threlkeld. With runners at the corners, first baseman Casey Kalenkosky hit the third consecutive single of the inning to score Franco and tie it 1-1.
In the third, Snitker doubled, and switch-hitting left fielder, Kurt Fleming, singled him to third. Peraza laid down a bunt to bring Snitker in and beat the throw to first for the infield hit. The Royals then induced a 5-3 double play ball, but not before the Braves retook the lead, 2-1
After a scoreless third inning, center fielder, Bubba Starling, cracked a lead off double, which put the tying-run on base and brought the go-ahead run to the plate. Diekroeger was walked before designated hitter, Fred Ford, reached base when Moses' throw pulled Kalenkosky off the bag. That loaded the bases for catcher Beau Maggi. Braves starter, Mauricio Cabrera, got Maggi out on strikes and Threlkeld out on a deep fly ball and pitched his way out of the bases loaded jam.
A lead off walk came back to bite the Braves in the fifth. Right fielder, Alex Hudak, drew that walk and scored on a double by Gore. With the go-ahead run at third, the Braves doubled up Starling when he flew out to right fielder Felix Marte. In a show of arm strength, Marte threw the ball all the way from the warning track to gun down the speedy Gore at home plate.
The back-and-forth continued when the Braves retook the lead in the fifth. The Braves got back-to-back singles from Luna and Franco before Moses, batting clean-up, mopped-up with an RBI double that scored Luna and put the Braves ahead on the scoreboard, 3-2.
Braves starter, Mauricio Cabrera, pitched 4.0 innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits. Cabrera recorded five strikeouts in the outing. Carlos Perez pitched 2.0 innings of scoreless relief and is credited with the win. Bryam Garcia pitched a 1-2-3 seventh to convert his fifth save in five attempts.
Jossiel Martinez is the pitcher of record for the Royals. He pitched 4 1/3 innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on 10 hits. Martinez is tagged with the loss.
