Mariners Start Series Off Right, Win 2-1

Pulaski, VA- The Mariners secured their 17th victory of the year Tuesday night, squeezing past the Astros 2-1 at Historic Calfee Park.

Despite their only two runs coming early in the first and second innings, the M's were able to hold on to the lead throughout in large part to the strong arms on the mound. M's starter Jochi Ogando moves to 2-2 on the year while dropping his ERA to 3.10. Ogando tossed five innings giving up 4 H, 0 ER, 5 BB, and striking out 5 Greeneville batters. Nolan Diaz relieved Ogando throwing 1 2/3 innings of one hit baseball, however, the one hit game after giving up two untimely walks resulting in Greeneville's one and only runner crossing the plate.

In his last nine games, Pulaski's C Tyler Marlette has hit .324 with 12 hits and 7 RBI's. He did not let the production slow down tonight as he went 2-3 while hitting his third home-run of the year. Pulaski's right-fielder Reggie Lawson was the only other Mariner who pieced together a multi-hit night.

David Holman threw 2 1/3 innings giving up 4 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, and striking out 4 en route to his 6th save.

The Mariners will take on the Astros again tomorrow, 7p.m., at Historic Calfee Park.
