Sox Two-Game Winning Streak Ended

The Bristol White Sox rolled in on a two-game winning streak after defeating the Bluefield Blue Jays in a doubleheader on August 6. The Sox were looking to take advantage of a Kingsport Mets team who were 2-19 away from home, but were denied as the Mets took an 8-3 win over the Sox.

The Mets struck first, scoring two runs in the top of the first on a Tomas Nido double and later on a Maikis De La Cruz single. After building a 2-0 lead, the Mets plated four runs in the top of the third highlighted by a bases clearing triple by Anthony Chavez.

The Sox were looking at a six run deficit in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Mets lead was cut to three on an Eric Grabe RBI groundout and two-run homerun by Alex Williams. The Mets held a 6-3 lead over the Sox, until the Mets added a run in the seventh and another run in the eighth.

Persio Reyes collected his third win on the season for the Mets as Leopoldo Sanchez dropped to 0-2 on the season for the Sox. Jorge Rivero led the Mets with four hits, a double, and scored two runs. Grabe paced the Sox with two hits on the night and a run scored.

The 12-29 Sox will host the 15-29 Mets tomorrow, August 8, with first pitch set for 7 p.m. It will be United Southeast Federal Credit Union Night at Boyce Cox Field.
