Bristol White Sox News Release
The Bristol White Sox professional baseball team has released the results of a recent study of the team's economic impact. The study was conducted by Dr. Steb Hipple with the East Tennessee State University Bureau of Business and Economic Research.
According to Dr. Hipple's analysis, the operation of a professional baseball team in Bristol adds $2,787,263 in additional output to the local economy, increasing household earnings in Bristol by $972,994. During the baseball season, the Sox create 122 full-time jobs.
Dr. Hipple is widely recognized as an authority on the local economy, writes and speaks extensively throughout the region on a multitude of business topics, and teaches both undergraduate and graduate business classes at East Tennessee State University.
"We've known for some time that we were contributing significantly to the local economy," stated Sox general manager Mahlon Luttrell, who also serves as president of Bristol Baseball, Inc., the 501c3 non-profit charitable organization that operates the Sox. "To see the precise impact we are having is pretty astounding, especially when you consider that an all-volunteer Board is adding close to $3 million to our local economy, and helping to employ more than 100 local residents during the season."
"We hope that local citizens, businesses and government will consider not only the fact that our volunteers keep professional baseball alive in the Twin Cities, but also the economic benefit we provide to the area, in continuing to support our efforts to maintain a professional quality facility in town so we can keep offering low-cost entertainment to our fans," Luttrell continued.
