Danville Otterbots News Release
DANVILLE, Va. - The Pulaski Mariners took game two of the series against Danville as they churned out 14 hits en route to a 9-3 victory. Pulaski used a seven run fourth, helped by five RBI singles, to take down Danville dropping Danville's record to under the .500 mark at 19-20.
Michael Flores took the mound for Danville hoping to slow up the potent Mariners offense. He gave up one in the first due to a Carlos Sanchez throwing error that allowed Ian Miller to score from third.
Flores pitched well besides the first until the gates broke open in the fourth. The Pulaski offense exploded scoring four off of Flores in the inning and continued hitting against reliever Matt Kimbrel tacking on three more against the righty. The Mariners did all their damage on singles combined with great base running. After Kristian Brito walked and Wilton Martinez doubled, the team had five singles to drive in all seven runs in the inning.
Pulaski added one more in the fifth inning before Danville finally started chipping away at the score. After Mikey Reynolds reached on an infield single and advanced to second on a throwing error it set up Alejandro Piloto up with an opportunity to do damage. Piloto took advantage of the runners in scoring position, lacing a first pitch single up the middle to plate two runs and make the score 9-2.
Piloto also drove in the final run for Danville on a groundout to the third baseman as Connor Lien came in to score.
Colby Holmes and Jordan Sechler combined for four shutout innings to finish the game, but Danville was unable to take advantage and fell in the contest 9-3.
Eddie Campbell picked up his second win of the season Friday tossing 6.0 innings of one run baseball, lowering his season ERA to an excellent 1.99. Flores earned his second loss of the season after being chased after just 3.1 inning, surrendering seven hits and five runs (four earned).
The two teams will play the final matchup between the two this season as Yean Carlos Gil and Edwin Diaz face off on the mound. It is DCC Educational Foundation night at the stadium and also Hometown Hero Bobble Head night at the stadium as there will be a special bobble head giving out to honor a local "Hometown Hero." The game is set for a 7:00 p.m. start in the series wrap-up between the teams.
