Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
The Cyclones bested the IronBirds by the score of 9-6 on Sunday evening, winning in thrilling, come-from-behind style, scoring all nine of their runs in their last two turns at bat. Nick Evans went 3-for-5 with a run scored, while Mo Chavez went 3-for-4 with a run scored and the go-ahead RBI to pace the Cyclones offense. The Cyclones win, coupled with a Lowell Spinners loss, moves Brooklyn only two games out of the Wild Card. The IronBirds jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, scoring twice in the second and once in the sixth, and with the Cyclones offense being held scoreless for 15 consecutive innings, it looked as if the IronBirds were on the verge of sweeping the two-game series, but in the seventh the Brooklyn bats exploded. Jonel Pacheco, playing in his first game in 11 days, started the rally with a solo blast and Caleb Stewart capped the inning with a three-run home run to give Brooklyn their first lead of the game at 4-3.
The lead was short-lived however, because in the top of the eighth Aberdeen scored three and took a 6-4 edge. But the Brooklyn bats were not done for the night. Nick Evans started the inning with a single and after a walk to Ivan Naccarata, Pacheco's sacrifice bunt put two men in scoring position for Drew Butera. Butera responded by lacing a single down the left field line to score both runners and knot the game. Mo Chavez followed with a double to score Butera and give the Cyclones a 7-6 advantage. Greg Gonzalez and Matt Anderson tacked on RBI singles to make the final score 9-6 in favor of the Cyclones. Travis Hope (4-1) was the winner for the Cyclones despite allowing three runs on four hits over his two innings of work. Eric Brown pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to close out the game for his third save of the year. The Cyclones will take two days off for the All-Star break, but KeySpan Park will be jumping with activity. On Tuesday, the Cyclones will host the Inaugural New York-Penn League All-Star Game beginning at 7:00pm, but there will be festivities all day long. From 3:00-5:00 the Cyclones invite all fans to enjoy a Brooklyn Street Fair on the backfield of KeySpan Park. No tickets are necessary to attend the Street Fair. There are still a limited number of tickets available for Tuesday's All-Star Game, that will go on sale beginning at 10:00 am on Tuesday morning. The Cyclones will return to action on Wednesday at Williamsport, and will return to Coney Island on Sunday, August 28th to take on the Staten Island Yankees.
