Brooklyn Cyclones News Release

Brooklyn, NY - For the fourth night in a row, the Cyclones (18-12) slugged out double digit runs, this time slamming the Jamestown Jammers (14-17) by the score of 11-1. Nick Evans continued his recent hot streak, going 3-for-5 with two home runs and six RBI. Nick has knocked in 14 runs in the last four games. His three-run slam in the fifth broke open a tight 2-1 game.

The Jammers took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, taking advantage of Waner Mateo's early wildness, but that would be the only time that Jamestown would be able to mount an offensive threat. In the bottom of the frame the Cyclones struck right back when Jesus Gamero's RBI single plated Joe Holden to knot the score at 1-1. In the second, the Cyclones took the lead for good when Jon Malo stole home on the back end of a double steal. After matching zeros in the third and fourth innings, Brooklyn piled on four more runs in the fifth to take control of the game. After Kyle Brown and Caleb Stewart hit back-to-back singles to start the rally, Nick Evans smashed a three run blast deep over the left-centerfield wall to give Brooklyn the 5-1 edge. Armand Gaerlan capped off the rally with a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 6-1.

Brooklyn added a single run in the sixth, two more in the seventh on Nick Evans' second round-tripper of the night, and two more in the eighth to give the Cyclones an 11-1 victory. Waner Mateo (3-1) was dominant on the mound once again. The 20-year old has been one of the best and most consistent pitchers for the Cyclones this year. He pitched five innings, giving up just one run, on seven hits, while walking two and striking out five. Aristides Almenar pitched the final three innings of the game, without allowing a run or a hit to close out the game and pick up his fourth save of the year.

The Cyclones have now scored 44 runs during their current four game winning streak, and will try to keep their bats blazing tomorrow in the middle game of the three game set with the Jammers . Tomorrow will also be Brooklyn Dodger night at KeySpan Park. Four members of the 1955 Championship team will be honored in a pre-game ceremony beginning at 5:30pm. Seats are still available and can be purchased over the phone by calling (718) 507-TIXX, logging on to www.brooklyncyclones.com, or in person at the KeySpan Park box office, beginning at 10:00am.
