Brooklyn Cyclones News Release

The Cyclones (7-2) swept today's doubleheader with two last-inning victories over the New Jersey Cardinals (4-5). Brooklyn won the first game, 5-4 and the second one, 6-5. The two teams finally finished the series after midnight on Wednesday night, after countless rain delays.

Brooklyn fought back from a 4-0 deficit in the seventh inning of the first game, and came back to win, 5-4 in the bottom of the ninth. Opening Day hero, Jesus Gamero, delivered a bases-loaded single to drive in the winning run in the rain-delayed game. Joe D'Alessandro got the victory, pitching two shutout innings, while striking out four batters.

Righthander Orlando Rengel got the start on Monday and pitched four innings, giving up three runs, all earned on six hits, while striking out six. Jason Weintraub made the start in tonight's continuation, which picked up in the top of the fifth. He pitched three innings, giving up one earned run, on three hits. Greg Gonzalez had the big two-run RBI single in the seventh inning to get the Cyclones within striking distance.

Due to league rules, the second game was played in just seven innings. Jonel Pacheco was the game two hero, driving in three runs with a bases-clearing double in a four-run first inning, and winning the game in the bottom of the seventh with a walk-off RBI single over the drawn-in centerfielder's head to drive in the winning run.

The Cyclones took two of three in the series against the Cardinals and have now won all three series thus far this year. Tickets are still available to watch the Cyclones, who are undefeated at home (6-0).
