Brooklyn Cyclones News Release

Brooklyn, NY, June 11, 2003 ¯ Proving that baseball holds a special place in the hearts of Brooklynites, the Brooklyn Cyclones have officially sold their season capacity of 285,000 tickets before Opening Day for the third straight year. The team drew 317,124 fans during 2002, breaking the 300,000 mark for the first time in Short-Season A history, and shattering their own and the record of 289,381 set in 2001.

*Many new clubs show a significant drop in attendance after three years, so we know how important it is to have fans continuing to support us so strongly. We had two very successful seasons in a row, and now it looks like we will make it a three-peat. I think the response proves that minor league baseball is a hit in Brooklyn and can thrive in a major league market,* said Jeff Wilpon, Senior Executive Vice President and COO of the Brooklyn Cyclones.

The Cyclones proved their success at the box office by ranking eighth in average attendance out of 161 minor league teams, which includes all affiliated full season minor league clubs. They draw an average of 8,345 fans per night and sell standing room only tickets on the day of the game to accommodate the fans. The team also holds a few hundred bleacher seats for day of game sales, which still gives fans an opportunity to catch Cyclones games live at KeySpan Park. Additionally, there is still select availability for party deck and luxury suite rentals, in addition to the picnic area.

*We look forward to playing in front of a capacity crowd every night this summer,* said Steve Cohen, General Manager of the Brooklyn Cyclones. *We still have tickets that we make available on the day of the game, so fans still have a chance to catch a game out at the ballpark.*

The Brooklyn Cyclones are the Class-A affiliate of the New York Mets. In their inaugural season the team compiled a 52-24 record on its way to winning the New York-Penn League Championship. In 2002, they followed up by breaking their own Short Season Class-A attendance record with 317,124 fans. Former New York Met Tim Teufel was recently named manager for the upcoming season. The team plays its home games at KeySpan Park, the 7,500-seat stadium in Coney Island. Box office hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Ticket information is available by calling 718-449-TIXS, by visiting the team's website at www.brooklyncyclones.com, or by calling the Shea Stadium box office at 718-507-TIXX.
