Cyclones Drop Back and Forth Battle in Wilmington, 9-8

WILMINGTON, DE - In a back-and-forth contest that featured four lead changes and two ties, the Wilmington Blue Rocks outlasted the Brooklyn Cyclones, the High-A affiliate of the New York Mets, 9-8 to earn the victory and a three games to two series lead Saturday night at Frawley Stadium.

BIG MOMENTS

Justin Connell ripped an RBI single to center field, scoring Jack Dunn from second base for the walk-off victory against Brooklyn reliever Andrew Edwards in the ninth to win 9-8.

Anthony Walters scored from first base in the eighth inning on Antoine Duplantis' single to right-center field to tie the game 8-8. Walters slid under catcher Andrew Pratt's tag on a bang-bang play at the plate.

Trailing 7-3, Luke Ritter tied the game with a grand slam in the fifth inning against Wilmington reliever Kyle Hinton, scoring Brett Baty, Ronny Mauricio, and Francisco Alvarez.

Wilmington turned around an early 2-0 deficit in the bottom of the first, scoring five runs against Brooklyn starter David Griffin, who made his affiliated baseball debut. Just two of the runs in the inning were earned, thanks to two massive Cyclones errors.

NEWS AND NOTES

Brooklyn starter David Griffin made his affiliated debut, signing with the Mets earlier this week from the Gary SouthShore RailCats in the American Association.

Luke Ritter homered for the second-consecutive day.

Brooklyn went 3-for-16 with runners in scoring position, leaving nine men on base.
