West Virginia Black Bears News Release

Granville, W. Va. - To kick off another three-game series at Monongalia County Ballpark, the West Virginia Black Bears fell to the Brooklyn Cyclones 7-1.

The Black Bears combined for only three hit in the ballgame tonight at the plate. After a quiet start, the Cyclones got on the board in the top of the third inning. A trio of singles brought around three runs to give the visitors an early lead.

Things were quiet for the next two innings, as West Virginia starting pitcher Osvaldo Bido settled into the game. The righty gave the home team five innings of work, surrendering only three runs to keep his team within striking distance.

Then in the sixth inning, Brooklyn pulled further ahead. A pair of doubles brought four runs around to score, as Cyclones jumped out to a 7-0 lead.

A bright spot for the Black Bears was lefty P Cam Alldred. The reliever gave his team two perfect innings on the mound, picking up two strikeouts without allowing a hit.

But once again, the West Virginia offense struggled to put men on base. Besides singles from CF Daniel Amaral, C Mike Gretler, and 2B Raul Siri, the batting order was quiet as the game moved into the final innings.

After P John Pomeroy came in to throw a scoreless frame in the top of the ninth, the Black Bears made things interesting in the bottom half. After Gretler reached base with a walk, three passed balls brought him around to score to give West Virginia it's only run of the game.

Brooklyn secured the final out to pick up the win, as the Black Bears fall to 15-25 on the season. Both teams are back in action tomorrow night, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
