Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release
AUBURN, N.Y. - Cam Warner hit a solo home run in his first game back with the Connecticut Tigers (19-19) since rejoining from the West Michigan Whitecaps but the Auburn Doubledays (20-18) scored nine runs between the sixth and seventh innings en route to an 11-5 victory on Friday at Falcon Park.
Tigers starter Carson Lance (Loss, 1-3) carried a no-hitter into the fourth inning when he allowed two Auburn runs without giving up a hit. The 23-year-old righty walked in a run with the bases loaded and Doubledays right fielder Ricardo Mendez tallied a sacrifice fly RBI to make it 2-0.
Warner cut the Connecticut deficit to 2-1 in the fifth inning with his second professional home run and first since July 14, 2017 in the Gulf Coast League. The 24-year-old Australian rejoined the Tigers on Thursday following 11 games with West Michigan in the Class A Midwest League.
Nick Ames tied the game in the fifth inning with a two-out double off the wall in right field that nearly cleared the fence for his second home run of the season. The 21-year-old first baseman from UNLV settled for the lone RBI as Sam McMillan scored to tie the game at 2-2.
Auburn loaded the bases again in the fifth and Felix Viloria allowed all three inherited runners to score after relieving Lance. In his first game back with the Tigers since 2017, Viloria allowed six earned runs in one inning as Connecticut allowed a season-high 11 runs scored.
Trailing 8-2 in the seventh, Tigers shortstop Isrrael De La Cruz carded an RBI single and center fielder Eric De La Rosa roped a two-run single to trim the Auburn lead to 8-5. De La Cruz led the Tigers with two hits on Friday and McMillan reached base twice on hit-by-pitches.
Tigers reliever Oswaldo Castillo, who joined Warner and Viloria in the transfer from West Michigan on Thursday, pitched two scoreless innings with two hits and two walks allowed.
On Saturday, the Tigers meet the Doubledays at 6:30 p.m. in the second of three games scheduled this weekend. Connecticut left-handed pitcher Adam Wolf (1-1, 4.97) draws the start against Auburn lefty Jackson Stoeckinger (0-1, 0.75).
