Cutthroats Break Losing Streak

Independence - The Denver Cutthroats and Missouri Mavericks battled on Friday, January 31 at Independence Events Center in Independence, Missouri. The Cutthroats broke the 2013-14 season series tie with a 3-2 victory over the Mavericks.

Eric Castonguay (Sebastien Thinel) gave the Mavericks an early lead over the Cutthroats on Friday night. Missouri's Evan Vossen (Rob Kleebaum, Colten Hayes) extended the lead 2-0 with a shot past Denver's goaltender Kent Patterson. With 1:46 remaining in the opening period, Vincent Arseneau (T.J. Fox, Mikael Tam) fired a puck to the back of the Mavericks net to cut the deficit to one.

Denver Cutthroats Lee Moffie (Troy Schwab, Garett Bembridge) scored his first goal of the season and the lone goal of the second period to tie the score at 2.

Less than 30 seconds into the final period, Robin Soudek (Arseneau) gave the Cutthroats a 3-2 lead over the Mavericks. Denver's Patterson was able to stop Missouri's 15 shots on goal in the third period and secure the Cutthroats 3-2 victory over the Mavericks. The Denver Cutthroats record now stands at 20-12-9 as they head to Oklahoma for the final game of the team's series on the road.

The Denver Cutthroats road series concludes on Saturday, February 1 against the Tulsa Oilers at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
