New Haven County Cutters News Release
West Haven, CT- The New Haven County Cutters came from behind for a franchise high eighth straight win in the series opener against the Quebec Capitales with a 3-2 come-from-behind victory at Yale Field.
With the score tied in the bottom of the eighth, relief pitcher Brett Lawson gave up a leadoff solo blast to New Haven Catcher Adam Shorsher. For Lawson it was his fourth appearance of the season and the third time he gave up a homer to the first batter he faced.
The Cutters, with their first lead of the game, turned the ball over to closer Shane Waroff. The reliever struck out the first two hitters looking and Buck McNabb drove a 2-0 fastball to deep left field where Kevin Forbes made a game ending catch against the wall.
Gavin Fingleson blooped a ball down the left field line in the eighth with two outs. The ball bounced away from a diving Buck McNabb and into the Cutters bullpen area. The Cutters players vacated the area and Quebec shortstop Lee Delfino was in pursuit with McNabb laying injured on the ground. Delfino turned his attention from the ball assuming the ball was called dead without such indication coming from third base umpire John Basso, Fingleson motored around the bases for what appeared to be an inside-the-park homer. After a meeting with Capitales Manager Darren Bush, the Umpires overturned the play and put Fingleson at second. Fingleson went 3-for-4.
Tim Keinath got the win (2-1) and Shane Waroff recorded his sixth save of the season. The losing pitcher for the Capitales was Brett Lawson (0-1).
Game Two of the series is tomorrow, which is Two-For-Tuesday at Yale Field with two Box and/or Reserved Section Tickets available for the price of one. Also, soft drinks are the special concession item available for the buy-one-get-one-free promotion. Tickets are still available for tomorrow's game by logging onto www.cuttersbaseball.com, stopping by the Box Office or by calling the Cutters front office at (203) 777-5636.
