New Haven County Cutters News Release

WEST HAVEN, CT - Already assured of a No. 2 playoff seed before the start of play, the New Haven County Cutters (27-18, 52-38) swept a doubleheader over the Nashua Pride (23-22, 40-47), Sunday afternoon, cruising in game one, 5-1, and holding on to take game 2, 3-2, at Historic Yale Field.

The Cutters' bats erupted early in game one as a leadoff home run from second baseman Jose Delgado (1) and a two-run shot from designated hitter D.J. Boston (2) put the home team on top, 3-0.

In possibly his best performance of the season, Cutters' starter Courtney Hall (5-4) allowed just two hits and struck out seven in 6.0 innings to take the win.

Pride right fielder Mark Hamilton went 2-for-3 and collected both hits off of Hall.

Pride starter RHP Josh Stevens (5-3) yielded five runs on nine hits in 4.1 innings and suffered the loss.

In game two, the Pride sliced a 3-0 deficit to 3-2 when they took advantage of a Cutters' outfield error in the sixth inning to score two unearned runs.

In the seventh and last inning, Pride catcher Mark Brown led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. But Cutters' reliever Andy Weimer forced consecutive groundouts to shortstop to seal the win and earn the save (19).

RHP Justin Knoff started for the Cutters and went just 3.0 innings to preserve his arm for his Game Two post season start Thursday night.

LHP Ryan Bonesio (3-2) came on in the fourth for the Cutters and allowed two unearned runs in 2.2 innings to record the win.

Pride starter LHP Jarrad Lavergne (4-8) was solid in his 4.1 innings of work, allowing one earned run on five hits and struck out six in 4.1 innings but was tagged with the loss.

Shortstop Elliott Ayala went 1-for-2 with a double and Hamilton connected for two more singles to combine for a 4-for-6 afternoon.

Boston also totaled for a 4-for-6 day, doubling and driving in five.

The Cutters finish the 2006 regular season schedule Monday afternoon against the Pride beginning at 2:05 p.m.

RHP Tim Keinath (7-6, 4.07 ERA) will start for the Cutters as the Pride counters with RHP Dan Reichert (8-5, 3.95 ERA).
