
Cutters Rack Up 16 Strikeouts in 6-2 Win at Tigers

Norwich, Conn. - Kendall Simmons socked his fifth homer of the season while a trio of Cutters pitchers racked up the strikeouts in a 6-2 win at the Connecticut Tigers on Wednesday night. Tyler Burch and Leonel Aponte (W, 1-1) had a half-dozen punch-outs apiece and then hard-throwing Alejandro Made capped it off with four more whiffs to conclude the night.
Williamsport (15-29) improved to 5-2 in its last seven games while evening the three-game series at a game apiece.
Simmons began the scoring with a bases-loaded walk in the first and then recorded his second RBI of the evening with his towering shot to left in the eighth. The sixth-round selection of the Phillies in 2018 out of Macon, Ga. has cranked up three home runs in the last four games.
Bryson Stott had an RBI double while Rudy Rott and D.J. Stewart added runs batted in as well.
Aponte wrapped up a dominating July in which he threw 19.1 innings in five appearances allowing just two earned runs with only one walk and 14 strikeouts. The 20-year-old right-handed from Venezuela recorded his first NYPL win.
The Cutters play the finale of their six-game road-trip on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. with LHP Spencer Van Scoyoc the probable starter. The Crosscutters return home Friday night to open a three-game series against Brooklyn.
