
Cannon's HR Comes with Controversy, Lowell Wins 3-1

CONEY ISLAND - Cameron Cannon's tiebreaking home run in the seventh sent the Lowell Spinners to a 3-1 victory over the Brooklyn Cyclones, the Short Season Class A affiliate of the New York Mets, Wednesday night at MCU Park.

BIG MOMENTS
Cameron Cannon's two-out, two-run homer in the seventh broke a 1-1 deadlock, giving the Spinners a 3-1 advantage. The at-bat prior to the homer, Brooklyn catcher Jake Ortega nearly nabbed baserunner Jonathan Diaz at second base to end the inning, but a stolen base was determined.
Lowell scored in the top of the sixth on Nick Northcut's RBI single. Brooklyn tied the game in the bottom of the frame on Antoine Duplantis' RBI single. Brooklyn starter Matt Cleveland tossed 4 1/3 scoreless innings in a no-decision, striking out eight. Lowell's Jenrry Mejia, a rehabber from Triple-A Pawtucket, earned the save with a scoreless ninth. Mejia, once permanently suspended from baseball, pitched with the Brooklyn Cyclones during his Mets tenure in 2008.

His previous high was five in 2018. - Antoine Duplantis has a season-high five outfield assists. - Cyclones second baseman Luke Ritter was ejected from the game in the top of the sixth. Due to a controversial stolen base at second, the potential final out of the inning, came one batter before Cameron Cannon's tiebreaking home run.
