Trenton Thunder News Release

(Altoona, PA) - Altoona scored the go-ahead run on a sixth-inning error and once again held the Trenton bats at bay as the Curve completed a three-game sweep with a 2-1 win over the Thunder Sunday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Trenton was held to only one unearned run in the final two games of the series and dropped its season-high fifth straight game.

Shortstop Reegie Corona's throwing error allowed Adalberto Santos to score all the way from first base on an infield single by Gregory Polanco with none out in the sixth. It was one of four errors by the Thunder on the evening.

Mikey O'Brien (4-2) pitched well but earned his second straight loss, allowed just two runs (one earned) in six innings. Altoona starter Jameson Taillon struck out six Trenton batters in five innings and pitched around six singles to allow only one unearned run.

Luis Sanz earned his fourth save of the season for the Curve, pitching around a leadoff ninth-inning single by Corona in the process. Second-baseman Jarek Cunningham made a diving catch on Shane Brown's looper in shallow right field to end the game.

Trenton's lone run scored in the fourth when Jose Pirela singled, stole second and third base and came home on an error on Altoona third-baseman Santos. The Thunder are now 2-11 in June and have fallen 9.0 games behind first-place Binghamton.

After a day off on Monday Trenton continues the current six-game road trip with the opener of a three-game set at Akron. The Thunder have not yet announced a starting pitcher, while the Aeros are slated to throw lefty Matt Packer (4-5, 2.93). Radio coverage on 91.3 FM (WTSR) and also streaming online begins at 6:50 pm Tuesday night.
