ALTOONA, PA - Daniel Moskos had his career long start as the Altoona Curve took the series opener from the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (AA-Toronto Blue Jays) 3-2 Friday night at Blair County Ballpark.

Moskos (9-9), the Pirates first round draft choice in 2007, tossed 8.0 innings allowing just two runs on five hits while striking out six and worked his way out of tough jams on his way to his ninth win of the season. The 8.0 inning outing surpasses his previous career long start of 7.2 innings on 6/14/08 as a member of the Lynchburg Hillcats (A-Advanced).

Ramon Aguero picked up a save in his first Double-A appearance in dramatic fashion as he gunned down the potential tying run with two outs in the ninth on a suicide squeeze attempt.

Pirates' No. 1 prospect Pedro Alvarez continued his unbelievable August accounting for three of the Curve's seven hits in a 3-for-3 night drilling his ninth Double-A home run and his 23rd overall long ball of the season. Alvarez is hitting .667 (14x21) over his last five games with a home run and five RBIs and leads the Eastern League in batting average in August at .468 through 12 games.

The Curve (50-69) and Fisher Cats (53-65) continue their three game series Saturday night at Blair County Ballpark. Saturday's contest is set to begin at 7:05 p.m. with radio coverage beginning at 6:35 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Altoona Curve Radio Network.

Curve right hander Yoslan Herrera (9-0, 3.38) will try to stay unbeaten and reach the 10 win mark for the first time in his three year career. Herrera will be up against Fisher Cat's righty Randy Boone (8-7, 4.07).

Saturday the Curve welcome in the nationally renowned mascot Reggy, the purple party dude will be entertaining the masses with videos skits and much more. Great seats are still available for Saturday and all remaining Curve home games throughout the 2009 season.
