(Bowie, MD) - LF Ryan Kalish snapped a 1-1 tie with 2-out, 3-run homer off LHP Ryan Rodriguez in the top of the seventh inning, leading the Portland Sea Dogs (58-59) past the Bowie Baysox (61-57), 4-1 on Friday night in the series opener at Prince George's Stadium. The Sea Dogs are 2-2 on their 6-game roadtrip and remain a ½ back of New Britain and Trenton for the second playoff spot in the Eastern League's Northern Division.

LHP Felix Doubront (7-4) hurled 6.1 innings on six hits and one run to earn the win for Portland. Doubront left the game in the seventh inning after a walk to DH Paco Figueroa and a fly out to CF Adam Donachie. Bowie starter RHP Steve Johnson (no-decision), who faced Doubront last week at Fenway Park, worked six innings on four hits and one run.

RHP Ryan Ouellette (4-4) relieved Johnson after six innings and took the loss for the Baysox. 2B Ryan Khoury greeted Ouellette with a double to left field and advanced to third base on a passed ball. CF Matt Sheely walked but was caught stealing. SS Iggy Suarez drew a walk to force Ouellette out of the game. Kalish worked a 3-2 count on Rodriguez and blasted a fastball over the right-field wall - his 9th home run of the season.

RHP Chad Rhoades earned his 6th hold of the season by working 1.2 innings on one hit, one walk and two strikeouts. LHP Dustin Richardson converted his 4th save of the year with a scoreless ninth and fanned two.

Bowie drew first blood with a run off Doubront in the third inning. With one out, CF Daniel Figueroa pulled a double down the left-field line and advanced to third base on a SS Carlos Rojas' infield single. 3B Josh Bell delivered a sacrifice fly to center field, his 6th RBI of the season. Portland tied the game in the top of the fifth inning on LF Jason Place's solo homer to right field. Place has hit both Double-A homers off Johnson (1st at Fenway Park on August 8).

Portland and Bowie meet up in game two of their series on Saturday night beginning at 7:05 PM from Prince George's Stadium. RHP Jarod Plummer (8-6, 3.92) takes on RHP Ryohei Tanaka (2-2, 2.61 ERA) for the second time in seven days.

RF Daniel Nava (1-for-3, 2B, BB) has reached base safely in 10 of his last 14 plate appearances...Doubront earned his 2nd quality start of the season and his first win since July 22 at New Britain...Friday's crowd of 9,890 was the largest at Prince George's Stadium this season...Suarez led off for the 3rd straight game and extended his hitting streak to a season-high 4 games...Bowie has gone 2-for-26 (.077) with runners-in-scoring position during the season series.
