Altoona Curve News Release

ALTOONA- The Altoona Curve, the Double-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, is pleased to announce that the club has been selected as the host for the 2006 Eastern League All-Star Game. The announcement was made by Eastern League President Joe McEacharn as part of an on-field ceremony prior to Friday night's game at Blair County Ballpark.

The annual all-star classic will be held at Blair County Ballpark on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 and will be surrounded by several ballpark and community events. Among the events tentatively scheduled include the 2006 Eastern League All-Star FanFest, which will feature fan autograph sessions and meet-and-greets with all-star players, and other fun, fan-oriented events at different venues throughout the area. Also being planned is a special All-Star Gala, which will provide fans a unique entertainment program while also showcasing the great history of Altoona and Central Pennsylvania to fans and representatives from other Eastern League clubs traveling to the area for the game. Events will be held on both Tuesday, July 11th and Wednesday, July 12th.

"The entire Curve family is excited to be named the host of the 2006 Eastern League All-Star Game and we are looking forward to bringing this great game and all of the fun events that surround it to Blair County Ballpark, the city of Altoona and the entire Central Pennsylvania Region," said Curve General Manager Todd Parnell. "Our dedicated and loyal fans have earned the right to have such a prestigious event take place at Blair County Ballpark, but just as important is the unique opportunity to showcase the great history of Altoona and the entire region to the many out-of-town visitors who the All-Star Game will attract."

"The 2006 Eastern League All-Star Game provides the league and its member clubs the opportunity to bring something special to a city that shows tremendous support to an Altoona Curve team that exemplifies the role Eastern League clubs can play within their communities," said Mr. McEacharn. "We are looking forward to showcasing the Major League stars of tomorrow to the outstanding fans of the Altoona Curve, and are equally pleased to showcase Blair County Ballpark and the passionate fans of the Altoona Curve to the entire Eastern League."

In a unique twist, the 2006 Major League All-Star Game will be hosted by the Curve's parent club, the Pittsburgh Pirates, at PNC Park in Pittsburgh the day before the Eastern League All-Star Game will be played at Blair County Ballpark.

"Because of the close relationship that both our front office and fans share with the Pirates, the fact the PNC Park will be the site of next year's Major League Baseball All-Star Game makes this announcement even more special for everyone involved with the Altoona Curve," said Curve President & Managing Partner Chuck Greenberg. "We've been very anxious to have the opportunity to showcase Blair County Ballpark and the Central Pennsylvania region by hosting an Eastern League All-Star Game and we are looking forward to making this entire event is an overwhelming success."

The 2006 Eastern League All-Star Game will feature the stars of the Southern Division (Altoona, Akron, Bowie, Erie, Harrisburg and Reading) against the top players from the Northern Division (Binghamton, New Britain, New Hampshire, Norwich, Portland and Trenton). Each team will be comprised of 24 players, with every Eastern League team being represented by at least one pitcher and one position player. The teams will be selected through a combination of fan balloting and selections from managers, media and team personnel.

The Curve will begin planning and scheduling several community and ballpark events surrounding the 2006 Eastern League All-Star Game and those events will be announced as they are confirmed. In addition, ticket information for the game will be announced at a later date. The Curve will also soon be announcing information regarding sponsorship opportunities for area businesses as well as ways for fans throughout the region to serve as volunteers for different All-Star events.
