Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA, PA -- Scott Neuberger singled home Taber Lee in the bottom of the 11th inning as the Altoona Curve completed a come-from-behind 4-3 win over the Harrisburg Senators Monday night at Blair County Ballpark.
The win ended a four-game losing skid for the Curve (14-14) and continued their all-time domination of the Senators at Blair County Ballpark. Since their inaugural season in 1999, the Curve have posted a 44-14 record against Harrisburg at home. The Senators lost for the 10th time in their last 12 contests to fall to 12-17 on the season.
The Curve had trailed 3-2 with two outs and no one on in the bottom of the ninth inning against Harrisburg closer Danny Rueckel, but Rajai Davis kept the Curve alive with a base hit and then scored all the way from first base when Craig Stansberry was credited with an infield single on a ball that was thrown away by Senators' third baseman Shawn Norris.
Rueckel (0-2) suffered a blown save and his second loss of the season for Harrisburg, while James Johnson (3-1), the Curve's four pitcher of the game was credited with the win. Johnson worked a scoreless top of the 11th, leaving two runners on base.
Neither starting pitcher factored in the decision, but both pitched well, including Curve starter Tom Gorzelanny, who gave up two runs on eight hits over six innings of work in his second start of the season. Harrisburg starter David Gil allowed just a fourth-inning two-run homer to Ronny Paulino in his five innings of work.
Paulino, Davis and Brandon Chaves each had two hits for the Curve, while Tom Evans went 3-for-3 and reached base safely five times to pace the Curve's 13-hit attack.
The Curve and Senators will play the second of their three-game series Tuesday night at 6:35 PM at Blair County Ballpark. Altoona will send left-hander Mike Connolly (1-3, 4.00) to the mound to square off against Harrisburg southpaw Jason Stevenson (0-3, 12.00).
