Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Fort Wayne TinCaps concluded their homestand on Sunday afternoon with a 3-2 loss to the Lansing Lugnuts (Oakland A's affiliate). Nevertheless, the 'Caps finished the two-week stretch at Parkview Field with a 7-5 record.

First baseman Cole Cummings hit his third home run as a TinCap, in his 17th game with the team since a promotion from Single-A Lake Elsinore. That gave Fort Wayne (9-12, 36-51) a 1-0 lead in the second.

However, Lansing (9-12, 34-53) tied the game in the third and went ahead, 3-1, with a pair of runs in the sixth.

The TinCaps pulled to within a run in the sixth as catcher Brandon Valenzuela delivered a two-out RBI single to score center fielder Corey Rosier from second base. Rosier had two hits on the day, including a double.

The 'Caps put the tying run on base in the bottom of the ninth, but came up short.

While there aren't any all-star games in Minor League Baseball this season, Minor League Baseball will take the same break as Major League Baseball with no games this Monday-Thursday.

The MLB All-Star Game is set for Tuesday night, featuring five former TinCaps. Dodgers shortstop Trea Turner (2014) will start at shortstop for the National League and first baseman Ty France (2016) of the Mariners is a reserve for the American League. The NL roster also includes pitchers Max Fried (2013-14) of the Braves, the Pirates' David Bednar (2016-17), and Miles Mikolas (2010) of the Cardinals.

Next Game: Friday, July 22 @ Dayton (7:05 p.m.)
