Cubs manager garners honor

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Pacific Coast League today announced Pat Listach of the Iowa Cubs has been named PCL manager of the year, an honor annually chosen by his peers and league media representatives.

Listach is in his first full season as manager of the I-Cubs, guiding them to a current record of 81-and-57 in the PCL Northern Division with four games remaining. He was the hitting coach from 2001-2005 and was manager for 55 games in 2002 for the I-Cubs after Bruce Kimm's promotion to Chicago. He spent the 2006 and 2007 seasons managing the Cubs Double-A affiliate in the Southern League where he compiled a 148-130 (.532) record. Listach spent six seasons in the Major Leagues with the Milwaukee Brewers from 1992-1996 and Houston in 1997. He was named the 1992 Rookie of the Year for Milwaukee, hitting .290 and stealing 54 bases in 149 games.

Previous award winners include Tommy Lasorda of Spokane in 1970, Mike Hargrove of Colorado Springs in 1989, and Charlie Manuel of Colorado Springs in 1992.
