
Cubs plate seven in win

The Iowa Cubs trounced the Omaha Royals 7-2 in front of 10,122 people Friday night at Principal Park.
The Cubs took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Andres Torres led off with a triple and was driven home when Felix Pie hit an RBI groundout.
Omaha drove in two runs in the top of the second inning for to take the lead, however the Cubs answered back with a three-run third inning.
Nate Spears doubled and Torres and Pie walked before Casey McGehee doubled to drive in the three runs for a 4-2 lead. Torres also stole his team-leading 25th base in the third inning.
Koyie Hill, who was 2-for-4, added to the Cubs lead when he launched a solo homer over the bleachers in right field. Iowa added another pair of runs in the sixth inning. Hill and designated hitter Tony Richie hit back-to-back singles. Torres then drove in the pair for the 7-2 final.
J.R. Mathes (9-5) allowed two runs on seven hits over five innings of work to pick up his ninth win. Omaha's Matt Wright (4-10) gave up six runs on nine hits for the loss.
