Comstock Park, MI: After being washed away last night in a suspended game, the South Bend Cubs and West Michigan Whitecaps closed the first half of the Midwest League season on Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Ballpark. In a 4-3 come from behind win, the Cubs ended the first half on a good note and will take a 37-31 record to the All-Star Break.

The Cubs picked up right where they left off from yesterday by grabbing the 2-0 lead five batters into the game courtesy of RBI from Andy Weber and Jonathan Sierra. South Bend led 5-0 before the game was suspended last night due to field conditions.

With the early lead, Cubs starter Peyton Remy settled in and worked a quality start with five innings of shutout baseball. The former reliever and now starter brought his ERA down to 3.70.

After Remy departed, reliever Jose Albertos surrendered three runs in the 6th inning before being pulled from the game due to an injury. Jack Patterson took over and got the Cubs out of the inning, but the Whitecaps led 3-2.

In the 7th, the Cubs plated two more and first tied the game when Chris Morel sprinted home on a wild pitch thrown by Drew Crosby. Later in the frame, Gustavo Polanco drove in the winning run when he punched a single up the middle. It was 4-3 Cubs heading to the stretch.

The back-end of the bullpen held their own as Sean Barry and Ethan Roberts combined for three innings of scoreless baseball to close the victory. Patterson took the win, while Roberts earned his seventh save.

The Cubs now head into the break and the 55th Annual Midwest League All-Star Game with five South Bend players on the All-Star team. The Home Run Derby is set for tomorrow at 7:30 and the All-Star Game Tuesday at 7:35. For more information, visit SouthBendCubs.com/ASG.
