Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Gesa Stadium - Pasco, WA) - For the third time in four games, the Tri-City Dust Devils (5-1) shut out the Vancouver Canadians (1-5) with a 4-0 victory on Sunday night out at Gesa Stadium in front of 2,144 fans.
The Canadians ran into tough pitching once again as Tri-City starter RHP Tyler Gagnon dazzled over his six innings of work scattering just two hits while striking out eight Vancouver hitters en route to his second win of the summer. Dust Devils manager Freddie Ocasio only had to go to his bullpen once in the victory as he turned the ball over to LHP Ken Roberts who went three scoreless frames, striking out four to secure the victory.
Vancouver ran into trouble in the bottom of the 3rd inning as 3B Jayson Langfels lead off the inning with a single and moved over to third base on a single from LF Jaron Shepherd combined with an error from Canadians 1B Kevin Patterson that allowed Langfels the extra base. From there, a single from CF Brian Humphries and a hard hit ball off the bat of 2B Tim Smalling that couldn't be handled cleanly from Vancouver 2B Jon Berti helped the Dust Devils to a 2-0 lead.
RHP Taylor Cole came into the game for the Canadians in the bottom of the 5th inning taking over for starter RHP Kramer Champlin and was touched up early. A leadoff walk to 3B Jayson Langfels followed by a double off the bat of 3B Jaron Shepherd were the catalysts for a two-run rally that helped the Dust Devils extend their lead to 4-0.
Vancouver's offense was held off the board for 18 straight innings dating back to a 7-0 shutout on Saturday, July 30th and finish the month of July with a record of 14-16 (.467). With Salem-Keizer's victory over Yakima on Sunday that improves the Volcanoes record to 5-1, the Canadians fall four full games off the pace in the West Division.
