Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, B.C.) - A 4-for-4 night from 2B Cavan Biggio combined with five hard fought innings from the Canadians bullpen helped propel Vancouver back into the win category with a 6-5 victory over Everett, just hours after tripping in the home opener out at Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium.
Biggio, the Toronto Blue Jays 5th Round selection in this year's Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, couldn't be solved by Aquasox pitching as the son of Hall of Fame infielder Craig Biggio smacked singles in the bottom of the 1st and 2nd innings, before hitting back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the 4th and 7th innings. Shortly after hitting both doubles, Biggio would come across to score runs that proved helpful in securing the Canadians 3rd win of the 2016 season.
On the mound, Canadians starter RHP Luis Sanchez went four innings allowing all three of his runs in the top of the 4th inning. Vancouver's bullpen would get a solid effort from LHP Dan Lietz (2.0IP, 3H, 1R, 1ER, 2SO); LHP Evan Smith (1.1IP, 0H, 1R, 1ER, 1BB, 1SO) and newly-anointed closer RHP Jackson Lowery (1.2IP, 2H, 0R, 0ER, 4SO). Lowery would record his 2nd save in as many appearances while Lietz would grab his first win of the summer.
With the victory, the Canadians maintain a share of top spot of the North Division lead at 3-2 (.600) while the Aquasox fall a game off the pace at 2-3 (.400). Vancouver shares the division lead with Spokane (3-2) who topped Tri-City (2-3) in Pasco, WA on Tuesday night.
The Canadians and Everett play the rubber match of this three-game series out at Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium on Wednesday, June 22nd at 7:05pm with RHP Justin Maese (1-0, 1.80) getting the ball for the C's. The Canadians, thanks to Blake's and The BC Sports Hall of Fame will welcome baseball great Mike Cameron the Nat Bailey Stadium on Wednesday, as part of the annual Superstar Series. The first 1,000 fans to the ballpark will receive a commemorative Mike Cameron Baseball Card upon entry to the stadium.
